A Physicist's Take on Meditation
Even scientists are starting to put some faith into the power of meditation. Kathy Sykes, a British physicist, wrote a very interesting piece for London's Daily Mail about how curiosity about alternative treatments have led her to incorporate meditation into her daily routine.>
She took a trip to the Himalayas and found a Buddhist monk to teach her meditation. Not only did she feel a difference after meditating, but she realized she was inadvertently adding this practice to her day when she sat on the sofa to relax each evening. Ever the scientist, she went to a colleague at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston to do some testing while she meditated. The tests proved that meditating did create a physical response in her body, and her pulse and breathing rate did decrease, thus relaxing her.
Of course, you don't have to go to the Himalayas to have the same realization that meditation can be good for you. Start with our top five tips for meditating then find your own path from there. Hey, if the power of meditation can change the mind of a physicist, imagine what else it could do? [Daily Mail]
